Businesses and government agencies across Papua New Guinea will soon have a simple way to take payments online. Kina Bank has announced a partnership with NiuPay to bring a digital payment option to the Papua New Guinean market.

Kina Bank Chief Executive Officer Greg Pawson said the bank sees e-commerce as vital to the country’s long-term success, and chose a local fintech to help deliver it. NiuPay builds online financial technology for government, state-owned enterprises and businesses, with a focus on cashless revenue collection and secure, cloud-based data processing. With Covid-19 pushing more of life online, the aim is to make online payments simple for businesses of every size.

“Our visions align beyond our product offering,” said NiuPay Director James Inglis.

The partnership builds on our work with the Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority, whose online visa payment system we completed in 2019. Next, we plan a technology-neutral platform that gives small businesses an affordable way onto a payment gateway, with little up-front cost.

The partnership was reported by The National, and Business Advantage PNG profiled NiuPay in New way to pay. Thank you to Greg Pawson and the Kina Bank team for choosing us.

Update, November 2025: five years on, the partnership became an investment. Kina has invested in NiuPay to take PNG-built technology across the Pacific.
